As of February 2012, I've decided to stop updating this formally as a portfolio. Thanks for stopping by and reading what I've posted; I decided it was best for me to move on from this and focus on more creative work, instead of documenting simple in-the-job writing.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - The Weather Girls

Mother Nature was a single woman, according to these ladies. Luckily she also knew the popularity of disco and the traditional response it garnered from the gay community, producing one of the finest one-hit wonders in the last 30 years.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Mary (Sparkadia)

From an original line-up of four, Sparkadia is now just one man. Does this mean that the band is only 25% as good as it was before?

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (Social Distortion)

With this piece, I bounce back from major dental surgery (with still-swollen mandibles) to write this review for Red Hot Velvet, making it my fifth contribution to the site.

Read more about Social Distortion's long-awaited release here.

Sound Screen: Stop Me If You've Heard These Ones Before - Gary Numan

He's the fella that did 'Cars'. It's just such a shame that everyone forgets all the other great stuff he did.

Let me explain why.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - She Wants (Metronomy)

My second of two single reviews in quick succession, I look into the first offering from the third album by Metronomy.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - American Trash (Innerpartysystem)

It might be worth checking the "Innerpartysystem" tag below, because I have a history with these guys. It's funny how things never change!!

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - Tubeway Army

You know I hate to ask, but are friends electric?

Other answers, just not one for the question above, can be found in my piece on Tubeway Army here.

Sound Screen: Stop Me If You've Heard These Ones Before - Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac weren't without their great tunes. Nor were they without their great stories. Why not find out about them?

Leeds Guide: Your Leeds - The Shantastics

In order to help my friends secure valuable charity funding from people in Leeds and elsewhere, I penned an article about their upcoming travels on the Mongol Rally. It'll be in print this month and makes it my second contribution in two issues to be out on the shelves.

Read more about it here (and pardon the fact James' head is clipped. I played no part in that!).

It's also syndicated with Plush Magazine here.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - Carl Douglas

Everybody was engaged in hand-to-hand combat and one commentator compared its speed to electrical strikes from the sky. Who are we to judge?

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Dark Hearts (Riz MC)

In my second write-up for Red Hot Velvet, I tackle yet another single, this time having a look at grime rapper Riz MC's latest effort Dark Hearts.

Here's the link for you to peruse.

Sound Screen: Album Retrospective - Make Yourself (Incubus)

I grew up with Make Yourself. I didn't like it at first. Give it a few listens and you think very differently.

Here's a look back on Sound Screen. My next choice will be an overrated one, just to balance things out.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Play That Game (Mike Marlin)

In my debut piece for Red Hot Velvet, I tackle a single for the first time: Mike Marlin's Play That Game, released ahead of an album I'm probably going to cover in time, too.

Check it out here.

Sound Screen: Stop Me If You've Heard These Ones Before - Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode provided material for great covers, an amazing synth pop hit, a chilling ballad and the perfect intro song to a children's TV song. Weird, eh?

I prove it in this here article.

Groupon City Blog: Restaurant Review - Red Hot

It's my debut post for Groupon's City Blog and I'm very excited to work with them. Starting with this guest post, I'm going to become a regular contributor. As the site is mainly about recipes, exercise and weight loss, I need to fit in but be independent. I love a challenge.

Learn more about me, see the best piece of Photoshopping with me in it, and read the review of Leeds' Red Hot here at the Groupon City Blog.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - Meredith Brooks

She's a bitch. Then again, she's a lover. She's also a sinner. But also a saint? Make your mind up, love.

Sound Screen: Album Retrospective - Raising Hell (Run DMC)

Hip-hop is taken seriously now, but what made the critics really respond to the genre? This did.

Read why I reckon this is the first great album of its kind here.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - Nizlopi

How can you not fall in love with a song about a big yellow digger that's portrayed on a notepad?

Sound Screen: Stop Me If You've Heard These Ones Before - The Human League

In my first post of the year, I question if The Human League were undervalued despite not being overlooked.
