As of February 2012, I've decided to stop updating this formally as a portfolio. Thanks for stopping by and reading what I've posted; I decided it was best for me to move on from this and focus on more creative work, instead of documenting simple in-the-job writing.

Sound Screen: Spotify Sunday - Walking Music

There are plenty of songs that people just love to walk to, providing both a befitting mood-setter and a perfect tempo. Let a long-awaited Sound Screen Spotify playlist help you out, after the feature spent a long time in the wilderness.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - The Only Ones

The only hit for The Only Ones would turn out to be this excellent, well-known hit that has recently been resurrected as part of the soundtrack to Paul, the latest Frost/Pegg vehicle.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - The Cult

While they gained enough success in the UK, The Cult's only really recognisable and successful song came in the form of She Sells Sanctuary.

Sound Screen: Stop Me If You've Heard These Ones Before - The Pointer Sisters

Once again, The Pointer Sisters are the victim of a terrible problem: their name does not conjure memories of their songs, despite them being forever popular.

Let me explain why here.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Reach You (Lissa-Käthe)

Reach You is the last review of the latest batch of CDs from Red Hot Velvet. As Sound Screen is back on its feet, I'm concentrating on getting a bit of content up on there for the coming days, so I'll be away from RHV for a few days.

Click here for the EP review.

Sound Screen: One Hit Wonderland - Sigue Sigue Sputnik

There aren't many songs more 80s than this, even if it came into the game a little late. Still, it needs all the credit it deserves in the first One Hit Wonderland since the site's move.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Best of... Remixes (The Bloody Beetroots)

In yet another review for Red Hot Velvet this month (my... 13th to date/this year, I think), I get to grips with this Italian DJ group. I've only got one more CD left now, so I'd better stock up once more.

Sound Screen: "We Can Rebuild Him..."

After lying dormant for a long time due to a switching of accounts, I finally have full control of Sound Screen. Big changes are afoot, though a call to arms - alongside a general explanation - was needed.

Read my first post for Sound Screen after two weeks here.

Red Hot Velvet - Paul: Music from the Motion Picture (Various Artists)

It's been a long time since I reviewed a soundtrack, though interestingly, the first album I ever reviewed was the Twilight soundtrack back in late 2009. Let's see how far my writing's come since then, eh?

Red Hot Velvet - Music review: The World for Sale (Overweight)

Belgian ska isn't everyone's cup of tea, if not most. Still, can this somewhat unique ensemble do well in the UK, singing in English?

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Brotherocean (Syd Matters)

After a very busy week, I settled down to catch up on the first of a few CD reviews, starting with this surprising French quintet.

Groupon City Blog: The Layman's Guide to the World Famous Otley Run of Leeds

In my second post for Groupon, I tackle the Otley Run, one of the best nights out you'll ever have in the UK. The best thing? I'm going on one this weekend! Happy days.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Nearly Man (Mike Marlin)

As a follow-up to the great single I reviewed last month, I got the chance to review the full album by Mike Marlin. Needless to say, I had high expectations, but would they be fulfilled?

Read my review about Nearly Man here.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - I Am Salvation (Kill 'Em Dead Cowboy)

Metalcore's always an interesting one to review, and I Am Salvation by Kill 'Em Dead Cowboy is no exception.

Take a look at my review here at Red Hot Velvet.

Red Hot Velvet: Music review - Genius of Live (Tom Tom Club)

I had the chance to review the most recent release from this Talking Heads spin-off band for Red Hot Velvet, as I work my way through my next seven albums for the site.

Sound Screen: Stop Me If You've Heard These Ones Before - Parliament-Funkadelic

As my 400th article in my portfolio outside of work, I'm so happy it could be on Parliament-Funkadelic. It's just so damn fortuitous that it was by accident; I thought I'd done 400 earlier than this (though a clearout of my drafts on Blogger saw me short by four pieces). This idea came to me today; maybe it was for good reason.
